Twitch Follows YouTube, Jumps To HTML5 And Ditches Flash

(Tech News Today) – It used to be the other way round, at least when Google decided that it was time for YouTube to enter the video game streaming arena after the popularity that Twitch garnered. This time around Twitch follows YouTube in axing Flash support in favor of other better alternatives.

Twitch is not completely abandoning Adobe’s Flash at this moment, but has initiated the first step by redesigning its video player controls and providing options to HTML5 and Javascript. The video underneath is still powered by Flash; it’s just the controls that have been affected.

The redesign is also not slated for everyone and is rolled out to an initial pool of users. The new player controls would be first visible on channel pages. So why is everyone suddenly scared of Flash and jumping ship on Adobe?
