State, Defense Make Final Attempts to Persuade Jury in Zimmerman Trial
[Miami Herald]
SANFORD — Saying Trayvon Martin had every right to walk home that rainy night in February 2012, a prosecutor asked jurors to find George Zimmerman guilty of murdering the unarmed teen from Miami Gardens.
In a final attempt to persuade jurors that Zimmerman committed second-degree murder when he shot Trayvon during a violent brawl in February 2012, prosecutor John Guy repeatedly referred to the “hate” in Zimmerman’s heart.
And he frequently called Trayvon a “child,” a strategy perhaps aimed at the all-female jurors, most of whom are mothers.
“Was that child not in fear when he was running away from that defendant?” Guy asked jurors Friday, capping arguments in the case and setting up the final deliberations.
