A family burying its 19-year-old daughter today is asking for patience as investigators determine whether to file charges against the Dearborn Heights man who shot her on his porch, claiming he thought she was an intruder.

The nearly three hour service for Renisha McBride was held today at House of Prayer & Praise Cathedral, 16520 Wyoming, on Detroit’s west side. McBride was shot early Saturday.

The funeral program was filled with pictures of McBride smiling at a Disney theme park, holding a puppy and with family and friends. McBride, who worked for Ford Motor Company, loved cars and shopping, according to the program.

Outside the funeral, McBride’s maternal great-aunt, Kay Lumpkin, 48, of Dearborn Heights, said the service for her emphasized the tragedy of McBride’s death.
