Underdog Gun Control Advocate Lucy McBath won a Georgia House Seat against GOP incumbent Karen Handel. Handel beat Democrat Jon Ossoff in last year’s special election. On Wednesday midday, McBath declared victory in the very tight race. Handel did not concede until Thursday morning.

After carefully reviewing all of the election results, it is clear that I came up a bit short on Tuesday. Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lucy McBath & I send her only good thoughts and much prayer for the journey that lies ahead for her.

McBath has been fighting for common sense gun laws since 2012 when a white man (Michael Dunn) fatally shot her black 17-year-old son, Jordan Davis, in Jacksonville at a Gates gas station on Baymeadows road. He was angry that the teen and his friends were playing loud rap music. Dunn lied under oath that he feared for his life after yelling at the teens about the music. He said he thought one of them had a gun and was about to kill him. He sought protection under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. A jury of his peers convicted him of first-degree murder.
