(The Telegraph) – Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre will reportedly join Apple’s executive board following Apple’s rumoured acquisition of the company.

Last week it emerged that Apple was in talks with headphone maker Beats Electronics over a $3.2 billion (£1.9bn) takeover that would rank as the iPhone giant’s largest ever acquisition.

Dre appeared to confirm the purchase last Friday, stating in video that he had just become the “first billionaire in hip-hop”. But the deal has yet to be confirmed either by Beats or by Apple.

Now people familiar with talks have told music magazine Billboard that both Iovine and Dre (whose real name is Andre Young) will join Apple in executive roles, following the acquisition.

The report suggests that Iovine will oversee Apple’s music strategy and handle relationships with labels and publishers. Dre’s forthcoming role in the company was not revealed.
