(Cleveland.com) – While promoting his hit HBO series “Ballers” to the Television Critics Association on Thursday, Dwayne Johnson commented on the racist tirade that got wrestling icon Hulk Hogan fired from WWE.

WWE terminated Hogan’s contract last week after a tape featuring the wrestler, real name Terry Bollea, making racist remarks (including the N-word) leaked online.

Johnson, aka The Rock, and Hogan have shared a WWE ring before, most notably during WrestleMania X8 and again at WrestleMania 30. Johnson told critics he was very disappointed in Hogan’s remarks.

“I’ve known Terry for years,” Johnson said. “My dad help trained him in Florida in the 1970s, and even my uncle. I come from a long line of professional wrestlers. I didn’t know [Hogan] to be a racist. It’s one of those things where it’s not definite in terms of what he said. We’ve all talked trash. He said what he said, and he’s paying the price.”
