Amid Snowstorm, Bills Shrug, Bundle Up and Make Their Way to Detroit

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (The New York Times) — Tight ends Lee Smith and Scott Chandler loaded up their suitcases, said goodbye to their families and hitched rides on snowmobiles. Wide receiver Chris Hogan started walking.

In Orchard Park, where the Buffalo Bills practice and play their home games, storms left up to six feet of snow this week, rendering many streets impassable, and the field at Ralph Wilson Stadium unplayable for a scheduled game against the Jets on Sunday. The N.F.L. rescheduled the game for Monday night at Ford Field in Detroit, and the Bills’ players and staff had to get there.

So early Friday, they resorted to whatever means were available. Some who lived outside the affected areas drove directly to the airport. Many more made a rendezvous at the stadium, where they first caught a caravan of buses, then a flight to Detroit. On Friday night, the Bills convened at the Lions’ suburban complex in Allen Park, Mich., to practice for the first time since snow began falling on Monday.
