Amar’e Stoudemire Agrees to Sign with Mavericks
(USA Today) – Veteran forward Amar’e Stoudemire has agreed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks once he clears waivers, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because Stoudemire cannot be formally signed just yet.
The New York Knicks waived Stoudemire on Sunday night, when the two sides reached a buyout agreement. He must clear waivers on Wednesday before he can sign with the Mavericks, but is expected to do so because the substantial money left on his deal (approximately $23 million in the final year) surely means he won’t be claimed.
The Los Angeles Clippers and Phoenix Suns were reportedly among the teams that were interested in Stoudemire, but it appears the chance to add to Dallas’ depth and help them attempt a deep playoff push was more appealing.
