Wells Fargo Celebrates Military Saves Week; Offers Free Financial Education Webinars

SAN FRANCISCO, February 21, 2014 – In an ongoing effort to support military members, veterans and their families, Wells Fargo is celebrating Military Saves Week by offering three free financial education webinars focused on home buying, credit, and budget and saving.  America Saves Week, Feb. 24-March 1, is an annual campaign involving more than 1,000 nonprofit, government, and corporate groups—all encouraging individuals and families to save money and build personal wealth.

“At Wells Fargo, helping veterans, military servicemembers and their families succeed financially is a key priority for us and that includes offering financial education,” said Jerry Quinn, Wells Fargo Military Affairs program manager. “We are excited to work with our Military Mortgage Express group to offer these webinars during Military Saves Week.”

Webinar topics include:

  • Military Home Buying – Tuesday, February 25, 2 p.m. Central

Buying a home is one of the most important financial decisions you can make. During this session, you will learn how to buy in today’s market including the steps in the home buying process, how to identify the costs associated with buying a home and types of financing available, featuring the VA Home Loan Guaranty Program.   • Military Credit – Wednesday, February 26, 2:00 p.m. Central

It’s never too early or too late to learn the money skills you need for life, and one of the most important things everyone needs to know is how to better manage credit. Learn how to manage credit cards, the factors that go into your credit score, the benefits and risks of using credit and more! Access Code: MilCREDIT

  • Military Budget – Thursday, February 27, 2:00 p.m. Central

Make the most of the money you have by saving more, creating a spending plan and being a smart shopper. Access Code: MilBUDGET

Ongoing Financial Education

In 2013, Wells Fargo launched its Hands on Banking® for Military (http://www.handsonbanking.org) program to address the financial education challenges facing military members, veterans and their families.  The award winning Hands on Banking program offers10 individual lesson topics specifically for military ranging from the basics of banking to planning for retirement.

Wells Fargo joined forces with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) to bring Hands on Banking for Military to service members in the continental United States.  Military and veteran groups wishing to have a representative teach a class, or individuals interested in scheduling a session with a NFCC Certified Financial Professional can contact the NFCC at 855-3-SHARPEN or (855-374-2773)

Wells Fargo is currently training NFCC representatives, as well as veteran team members to teach the program.  To date, Wells Fargo has hosted two major financial education events with nearly 200 in attendance each and more than 3000 people have visited the website to learn more.
