THE RELIGION CORNER: The Thrill is Gone

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. — Galatians 6:9-10 (KJV)

How many of us quit trying to reach our goal because we get tired? Time is most likely the worst enemy of enthusiasm. If someone continues to pursue a goal, no matter what it is, there is a way to make it become a reality. Almost every one of you can think of something you were enthusiastic about, yet now the thrill is gone.

When you are doing what you have come to this earth to do, you will never tire. If that has happened to you, then you are likely on the wrong road. In fact, you will enjoy doing what God sent you to this earth to do so much, you will do it for free. You will not charge one red cent. Your joy simply comes from giving this service. It is ‘who’ you are.

It happened to me too, after the African American Civil War Memorial was almost finished, I knew I needed to find a way to become financially independent; and real estate was my choice. I had elaborate plans to become wealthy in real estate sales! It did not work! Took the class, passed the test, and became a licensed agent, but real estate was not for me. I found myself taking people to look at homes, but all they kept doing was looking! So I quit within a few weeks!

Did you ever buy a brand new car; never allow a drop of dirt to get on it. Just keep on driving; rain, snow splattered all over it, business papers on the seat; the thrill is gone! You take a vacation, and at first, everything was truly lovely; but even folk on vacation get sick and tired of beaches, sunsets and eating out every day; there is no place like home.

Children get bored with toys. My granddaughter has so many toys that she has lost interest in most of them. But when I buy her a new coloring book from the Dollar Store, she gets excited.

Christians get tired of doing good work, too. At first the excitement of teaching Sunday school class was exciting for you, but now the thrill is gone. At first you felt clean and strong in the Holy Spirit as you went about doing what you felt led to do. Now you have grown weary in well-doing. The thrill is gone!

Scripture tells us, “He who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not (therefore!) grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6 NKJ.

You will reap eternal life, if you sow to the Spirit, that is, if you don’t grow weary in well-doing. There was a point when my thrill was gone away. I was not on my proper path; I had taken a detour, so my soul was not at peace. It was during this time that I began to awaken by my alarm cook, 4:00 a.m. each morning to pray, meditate and seek guidance from the Lord. That guidance came, and now that I am on my proper course, I can see myself writing my column, and enjoying my radio show and coordinating health fairs for a lifetime!

The key here is you must stop and hear from the Holy Spirit; obviously you are doing what YOU want to do, and not what you were sent here to do. Trust me, when you are doing what the Heavenly Father sent you here to do, you will love it as well.
