“The Amazing Spider-Man” Tops Box Office with $341M in First Week

“The Amazing Spider-Man,” the latest installment of the Marvel Comics’ movie franchise, earned $341.2 million in its first week, including $140 million in domestic receipts.
Internationally, the movie earned a cumulative of $201 million, with $129.1 million coming from the weekend.
Domestically, “Amazing Spider-Man” has the sixth-best performance ever for a July 4th movie release, following the “Transformers” trilogy, “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “Spider-Man 2.”
The comedy “Ted,” which was created by “Family Guy” creator Seth McFarlane, was No. 2, earning $32.6 million in its second weekend. Thus far, the comedy has earned $120.2 million domestically. The Pixar-animated film “Brave” earned $20.2 million domestically, taking the No. 3 spot for the weekend.
