Report: Blazers to Pursue Kevin Love if LaMarcus Aldridge Leaves
(CBS Sports) – If Kevin Love takes meetings this summer as a free agent, he could have a whole lot to consider. While opting out of his $16.7 million salary next season with the Cleveland Cavaliers might have been a purely financial move, there are several teams that are looking to give him a pitch. One of them is the Portland Trail Blazers, if LaMarcus Aldridge goes elsewhere, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
Sources say that the Portland Trail Blazers, furthermore, are likely to pursue the former Oregon high school star in the event that LaMarcus Aldridge — as many league executives expect — flees the Blazers in free agency.
Love played for Lake Oswego high school, so he has some history with the area. The Blazers would also be able to offer him a co-star in Damian Lillard and a solid supporting cast, as long as they can retain Wesley Matthews. Love would do extremely well in the Blazers’ offense, and head coach Terry Stotts could easily make some tweaks to utilize his long-distance shooting. If Aldridge does indeed leave, this would be the best-case scenario for Portland.
