CHICAGO — A petition asking the White House to posthumously pardon the Honorable Marcus Garvey, the great Black nationalist leader, has received the support of Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, who has urged backing the petition. The deadline for signing the online petition is Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016.
“The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is asking all of those who love justice to add their names to a petition to have the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey posthumously pardoned by President Barack Obama. As you may know, he was one of the greatest of our leaders and the father of the largest movement thus far for the liberation of our people. He was falsely accused by the counter-intelligence activities against the rise of our people by J. Edgar Hoover. He was falsely convicted and then deported. The Minister is asking that you add your name to this petition,” said a statement released today by the Minister’s office in Chicago.
The petition can be found on the White House “We The People” webpage, which allows for submission of petitions on issues that matter to the public. The petition includes an easy and quick electronic signature verified by an email address. The petition address online is:

“We The People” makes calls for the White House to act by creating a petition, gathering signatures, sharing the petition with others but petitions must garner 100,000 signatures in 90 days to meet the threshold for a response from the White House.
