NNPA’S CLOVES CAMPBELL AND LEADING BLACK PUBLISHERS TRACE THEIR AFRICAN ROOTS WITH AFRICANANCESTRY.COM

WASHINGTON, DC (April 2014) – Cloves C. Campbell, National Newspaper Publishers Association Chairman and Publisher of the Arizona Informant, learned that he shares ancestry with the Bamileke people of present-day Cameroon during the NNPA’s Foundation Black Press Week held recently in Washington, DC.

As the Black-owned company that pioneered genetics ancestry tracing for people of African descent, AfricanAncestry.com joined NNPA’s Black Press Week to celebrate the roots of Black America’s first voice. Along with Campbell, the Windy City Word’s Mary Denson learned that she shares ancestry with the Yoruba people of Nigeria; Mollie Finch Belt, Co-publisher of the Dallas Examiner traced to the Temne people in Sierra Leone; and Jackie Hampton, publisher and editor of the Mississippi Link shares ancestry with the Tikar people of Cameroon.

“Black newspapers are the roots of all modern media for African-Americans and have always been a vital voice for our community,” said Gina Paige, co-founder and president of AfricanAncestry.com. “We are honored to connect their American roots with the voices of their African ancestors,” added Paige.
