Michael Vick spoke today about his role at quarterback this season for the New York Jets. The team is currently in OTAs and since Vick got with the team, the media has speculated on who will start between he and second-year player Geno Smith.

However, Vick has said that Smith is the starter and he is the backup.

“Going through the competition with Nick {last year in Philadelphia}, we knew, both of us coming in, that it was open competition, and that the best guy was going to win the job,” Vick said Thursday. “That’s what it was. It was pretty much cut and dry.

“But this situation, it’s different, it’s kind of unique. Even though it’s not an open competition, we’re both competing every day.” (read more from NJ.com).

He also stated that if the players were even, that Smith would get the tie.

“I would assume Geno would be the starter,” Vick said. “Geno is making great strides. At the end of the year last year, he did a lot of remarkable things. He put his team in position to win and did everything he was asked to do.” (read more from ESPN.com)
