Lumpectomy Is Better Than Double Mastectomy, Says Study

(Upstart Magazine) – According to the new study, a lumpectomy could increase the survival rates of the breast cancer patients more than the double mastectomy. This study reported that these patients have the possibility of surviving up to 10 years as compared the double mastectomy patients.

In this study, data of 189,734 California patients of breast cancer who had the diseases between 1998 and 2011 was analyzed. The results showed that women who opted for lumpectomies in addition with radiotherapy and chemotherapy had rates of survival up to 83.2%; on the other hand, women with double mastectomy had 81.2% survival rate.
