INDIANAPOLIS (USA Today) – Upon first being introduced as the head coach of the New York Jets, Todd Bowles instantly showed that he was different than his predecessor.

Rex Ryan was bold, brash and honest – perhaps, at times, too honest.

In his two public appearances as the Jet head coach, Bowles has been cautious, calculated and measured.

But there was one question for which Bowles didn’t need a brief pause to answer: What’s the biggest challenge he has faced in turning around a team coming off a 4-12 season?

“I would say belief,” Bowles said Wednesday at the NFL scouting combine. “Belief. We’ve got to get them to play together. We’ve got to have accountability. We’ve got to gel as a team. They’ve got to be allowed to let the coaches coach them and we’ve got to understand what our players can and can’t do. The faster we can get that done, hopefully the faster we can turn this thing around.”
