Jesse Owens’ Olympian Feat Deals

Adolf Hitler had hoped to use his country’s hosting of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin as a showcase for his philosophy of Aryan supremacy, but African American Jesse Owens shattered the German dictator/s ideology with an astounding four gold medal-winning performance.

In the process Owens set three new Olympic records in the 200 meter dash, the broad jump and the 400 meter relay and tied the 100 meter dash record. In each of those events he was competing against athletes groomed by the Nazi regime to make a statement in favor of Aryan (white) racial superiority.

Owens, a college star at Ohio State University, became an American hero and immediately was besieged with offers from promoters eager to cash in on his celebrity. The Chicago Defender’s foreign press service reporter filed the following story about Owens? achievements and the aftermath.

BERLIN, Germany, Aug. 14 - (Special) That he has contributed all that he could to the prestige and athletic fame of his school, Ohio State university, which some time ago maintained its stand of jim crowism toward a girl of his race in its dormitories, is the opinion of trackdom's Tan Thunderbolt, Jesse Owens.
