“Don’t put too much trust on your education level, girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, bank account, because they will fail you. Only put your 100% trust on God, you will succeed!”
― Werley Nortreus

“Faith doesn’t come in a bushel basket, It comes one step at a time”. Decide to trust Him for one little thing today, and before you know it, you find out He’s so trustworthy you be putting your whole life in His hands.”  ― Lynn Austin

1 Kings 17:7-16
Elijah and the Widow at Zarephath

7

Sometime later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” 11 As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.”

12

“As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”

13

Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”

15

She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. 16 For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.

Forward Thinkers, this is the seventh week of me teaching on the FOG “Favor of God”. Forward Thinkers let me remind you of some foundational truths before we tap into this week’s text. Envision a spring in a set position then image what happens when the spring is released; the spring shoots up and anything sitting on the spring also springs up. Forward Thinkers are you ready to spring up this season?

Forward Thinkers, Jesus said according to your faith it shall be done. Our faith releases the spring but remember faith without works is dead, so we must set our works on the top the spring. Forward Thinkers, catch the faith which comes by hearing the “Word of God” therefore; my ability to spring forward is directly related to our relationship to the Word of God. We have to understand all this to really operate in the FOG favor of God this season.

Forward Thinkers, let me present you with another illustration to demonstrate how important the Word of God is to our ability to soar higher. Forward Thinkers, balloons filled with human air does not have the potential to leave the ground. Balloons filled with human air can be kicked around and are easy to control but, balloons filled with helium (abundant element of gas) have the potential soar high and above the dangers at ground level.

Do you have the right stuff inside you to get off the ground?

Let’s get back to the text:

Vs. 7

Sometime later the brook dried up

Forward Thinkers, the brook had been a great instrument but we must understand God is the source and he has the right to change the instrument. He chooses to supply us with His favor. Forward Thinkers, we cannot claim to have faith in God and not trust Him when He redirects us in another direction.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

Forward Thinkers, the church community struggles here because they tend to put so much faith in the brook that when God moves on they desire to stay behind. Religious people struggle with faith because they tend to put their faith in things other than God. We must always remember just because we used to be successful doing something a certain way it does not mean that way will always be the best way to achieve success.

Forward Thinkers, the brook was never the source; but an instrument God choose to use to bless us with. We must keep in mind all instruments have an expected life span of operation. The ability to master a typewriter forty years ago guaranteed you a good paying job but if you never advanced to a computer you would have starved by now. Forward Thinkers, even the computer savory has to keep upgrading their hardware and software to keep up with the times and stay profitable.

Forward Thinkers the ravens have moved on and the brook had dried up, so stop crying, stop tripping but start praying over what God has done and release the faith needed to trust God enough to spring forward.

God Says Go At Once

Forward Thinkers, God often gives directions that may seem difficult but, the reward of our obedience is always our advancement. God told Abraham to leave his people and the result was Abraham being blessed with abundant prosperity. God told Peter after an unsuccessful day of fishing to launch out in the deep and the result was Peter hauled in a supernatural amount of fish. Forward Thinkers remember, God told Paul to let go of his past and press forward toward his goals.

Forward Thinkers, the FOG “Favor of God” is waiting for you to let go of your fear and failures and spring forward.

The Widow

Forward Thinkers God’s new instrument to bless you is now a widow another unusual road God chose to get you to the FOG “Favor of God”.

Forward Thinkers, we must understand who the widow is so, I researched the term “widow” the Strong’s Bible Dictionary and discovered the following synonyms for widow:

Lacking///Desolate///Bereaved///Abandoned

Forward Thinkers, the New Testament scriptures even commands us to take care of the widows yet God chose to use a widow as the instrument to take care of others during this season of transition. Forward Thinkers, we may not always understand what God is doing but we must try everything God does is for your good.

Forward Thinkers, faith is needed in the FOG “Favor of God” not common sense or logic.

Forward Thinkers, the FOG “Favor of God” is contagious, therefore; we must stay in an environment of faith.

Forward Thinkers, the “widow” was down and out but chosen by God and today I’m declaring no matter your current situation the “Favor of God” can turn things around in your favor.

Forward Thinkers, the widow released crazy faith and obedience and her faith caused the favor of God to cover her family. Today God desires to cover your family but, you must walk in faith and obedience.

In conclusion, Forward Thinkers the “widows” faith and obedience caused the FOG “favor of God” to spring up, she then went from down to her last to having all her needs met plus enough to feed others.
