It’s College Football National Signing Day and despite Alabama missing out on its third consecutive BCS title, it has earned the top recruiting class for the fourth straight year by two major college football recruiting websites.
Alabama tops the list for both ESPN and Rivals.com. The Crimson Tide are #1, ahead of LSU, Ohio State, Florida State and Tennessee, according to ESPN. On Rivals, they are followed by LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M and Tennessee.
Alabama entered Wednesday with 18 signed recruits from the ESPN 300, including five of the top 15 — offensive lineman Cameron Robinson (West Monroe/West Monroe, LA), defensive end Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge/Woodbridge, VA), cornerback Tony Brown (Ozen/Beaumont, TX), athlete Bo Scarbrough(Tuscaloosa County/Northport, AL) and cornerback Marlon Humphrey (Hoover/Hoover, AL).
According to Rivals.com, Alabama has landed 16 five-star recruits in its last four Rivals.com national recruiting titles. Alabama’s team point total of 3,263 is the most ever in the Rivals250 era, which dates back to 2008.
“This is a great class for Alabama, a class of historic proportions because it’s the first time in Rivals.com history that they landed the No. 1 player overall and once again they went into other states and plucked players away from in-state schools or long-time leaders,” Rivals.com national recruiting director Mike Farrell said.
“The dynasty that Saban has created in recruiting at Alabama is unmatched historically and it has played out in multiple national titles. I’ve seen Miami dominate in recruiting, I’ve seen USC and Florida dominate in recruiting but I have never seen anything like what Alabama is doing now. We are in the midst of the greatest recruiting run in history. That’s something to think about.”
Despite most of Alabama’s recruits having been committed for some time now, but they did have a major announcement today. Linebacker Rashaan Evans (Auburn/Auburn, AL) picked the Crimson Tide over his hometown Auburn Tigers. The recruitment behind Evans, who is considered the top outside linebacker in the country by Rivals, took an interesting turn after Auburn posted his player profile on their website earlier this morning. Selecting his hometown school’s Iron Bowl arch rival surprised many college football followers, especially after the profile was posted online.
USC closed out extremely well, earning commitments from five-star cornerback Adoree’ Jackson (Junipero Serra/Gardena, CA) and cornerback John “Juju” Smith (Poly/Long Beach, CA), who is also ranked in the top 25 in the nation by both Rivals and ESPN.
Other big recruits that committed today were:
- Wide receiver Malachi Dupre (John Curtis Christian/River Ridge, LA): LSU over Florida State.
- Wide receiver Ermon Lane (Homestead/Homestead, FL): Florida State after decommitting from Florida
- Defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross/Norcross, GA): Georgia
- Defensive end Solomon Thomas (Coppell/Coppell, TX): Stanford
- Offensive tackle Damian Prince (Bishop McNamara/Forestville, MD): Maryland over Florida
