(Politico) – The FBI announced Monday that it is investigating the widespread hacking and posting of alleged nude photos of female celebrities, according to The Associated Press. Apple also said it is looking into whether iCloud, its cloud system, had been hacked in order to obtain the photos. Here are 10 things to know about Apple’s iCloud system and cloud storage.

1. Apple announced and launched iCloud, the latest branding of its cloud storage service, in October 2011.

2. iCloud’s launch followed previous services such as MobileMe and .Mac. iCloud lets users store content such as pictures, music, documents and contacts wirelessly, allowing for transfer to Apple devices.
